Job description

CONTRACT Manufacturing Engineer

(Must have own umbrella company to comply with IR35)

The role involves process development, manufacturing estimates, tool development with vendors, and continuous improvement efforts. The engineer will take a proactive leadership role within the project team.

Responsibilities include creating, managing, facilitating, and coordinating the successful (timely and within budget) completion of new product project plans in support of the Design teams.

Post SOP, support the production team and lead the operations project team to meet all project and APQP milestone dates.

  1. Collaborate with design departments and external vendors to specify tooling requirements for new products and investigate improvements for existing tooling.
  2. Lead problem-solving activities to identify root causes and recommend practical and financially sound corrective actions.
  3. Conduct design reviews, FMEA, and APQP, recommending modifications to enhance design robustness and manufacturability.
  4. Investigate and suggest process improvements to enhance product quality and productivity continually.
  5. Develop accurate cost estimates for product pillars and productivity improvements, working with Supply Chain on tooling modifications.
  6. Coordinate projects and communication, supporting the operations project team to deliver projects on time, including planning for tooling, equipment, resources, and supply chain requirements.
  7. Oversee tooling supply from concept to full production, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality, utilizing DFA/DFM tools like Mouldflow, Boothroyd Dewhurst, and NX wizards.
