Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Contract Manager to join our Procurement & Commercial team, supporting the RIIO T3 Onshore Capital Delivery programme. You will negotiate terms for major projects, manage costs and engage stakeholders to ensure value for money and delivery success.

The role requires a Quantity Surveying background with relevant professional membership and NEC experience being advantageous. Flexible working options and a comprehensive benefits package are available.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying (or equivalent) and membership of RICS or CICES.
• Knowledge of commercial governance for large capital projects; experience in commercial, contract or cost management.
• Experience in estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration.
• Experience drafting/interpreting commercial contracts; familiarity with Standard Form contracts and bespoke arrangements.
• Experience with NEC contracts would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Support the P&C Manager and Senior Contract Manager in negotiating terms for high‑value projects and managing delivery.
• Negotiate contract prices and ensure value for money for consumers.
• Demonstrate stakeholder engagement and management skills; influence, lead and resolve disputes.
• Involve cost and forecast management with regular cost reporting and adherence to change procedures.
• Provide robust post‑contract commercial management to support project goals, including compensation events.
• Comply with safety policies and promote safe working practices.

Education

Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent

Professional membership of RICS or CICES

Commercial governance for large capital projects

Commercial, contract or cost management experience

Estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management

Contract administration

Drafting/interpreting commercial contracts; knowledge of standard forms and bespoke contracts

Base Location:

You’ll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, and Perth

Salary:

£51,600- £77,400 + car /car allowance - if applicable + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Contract Managers to join our Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team supporting the RIIO T3 Onshore Capital Delivery programme.

Reporting to the Senior Contract Manager or Procurement & Commercial Manager, you will provide the necessary pre and post contract procurement and commercial support to some the largest projects within the SSEN Transmission business. This is an excellent opportunity to grow within the SSE portfolio and contribute to the continued growth of this area of the business.

This role would someone from a Quantity Surveying background with experience working either Client or Contractor side, no specific experience working in Energy sector is required but would be advantageous.

You will

• Support the P&C Manager / Senior Contract Manager in negotiating contract T&C’s for projects of significant value and subsequent commercial management of the delivery phase.
• Negotiate contract prices and ensure all contract prices can be substantiated and provide value for money to consumers.
• Demonstrate extensive stakeholder engagement and management skills, and the ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes together with problem-solving.
• Be involved in Cost and Forecast Management via regular cost reporting and ensuring change management procedures are adhered to, Payment and Expenditure Management and Cost Estimating.
• Provide robust post-contract commercial management which will support the project goals and objectives, including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensuring that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.
• Comply with all safety policies and procedures, promote safety and safe working practices both internally and externally to improve safety performance.

You have

• A degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification and have or be working towards professional membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS or CICES.
• Knowledge and understanding of commercial governance arrangements for the development and execution of large capital projects together with commercial, contract or cost experience in delivering projects.
• Experience of estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration
• Experience of drafting and interpreting commercial contracts together with knowledge of Standard Form construction contracts and bespoke contract arrangements.
• Experience of working with NEC contracts would be advantageous.
