Job summary

SSE PLC is seeking Contract Managers to join the Procurement and Commercial team supporting the ASTI Onshore Capital Delivery programme. The role requires a degree in Quantity Surveying and professional membership progression, with a focus on pre/post contract procurement and commercial support for large-scale projects.

You will lead negotiations, manage costs and forecasts, and ensure robust post-contract commercial management while maintaining safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent; membership with RICS or CICES encouraged.
  • Experience in estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration.
  • Experience drafting/interpreting commercial contracts; familiarity with NEC and standard forms.

Responsibilities

  • Support P&C Manager/Senior CM in negotiating contract terms for projects (£50M-£500M) and manage delivery.
  • Negotiate contract prices and ensure value for money for consumers.
  • Demonstrate stakeholder engagement and management; ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes.
  • Contribute to cost and forecast management via regular cost reporting and change control procedures.
  • Provide robust post-contract commercial management including compensation events and ensuring core Commercial Manual principles.
  • Promote safety and safe working practices in line with SSE policies.

For this role, we require successful applicants to be based from one of our Scottish locations and you'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in the office - Glasgow, Perth

Salary:

£51600 - £77400+ car /car allowance - if applicable + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Contract Managers to join our Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team supporting the ASTI Onshore Capital Delivery programme.

Reporting to the Procurement & Commercial Manager, you will provide the necessary pre and post contract procurement and commercial support to some the largest projects within the SSEN Transmission This is an excellent opportunity to grow within the SSE portfolio and contribute to the continued growth of this area of the business

You will
  • support P&C Manager / Senior CM in negotiating contract T&C's for projects of significant value (from £50M to £500M) and subsequent commercial management of the delivery phase.
  • negotiate contract prices and ensure all contract prices can be substantiated and provide value for money to consumers.
  • have extensive Demonstrable stakeholder engagement and management skills are essential, as is the ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes together with problem solving.
  • be involved in Cost and forecast management via regular cost reporting and ensuring change management procedures are adhered to, Payment and expenditure management, Cost estimating.
  • Provide robust post contract commercial management which will support the project goals and objectives including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensuring that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures, promote safety and safe working practices both internally and externally to improve safety performance.
You have
  • A Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification and have or be working towards professional membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS or CICES.
  • Experience of estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration
  • Experience of drafting and interpreting commercial contracts together with knowledge of Standard Form construction contracts and bespoke contract arrangements. Experience of working with NEC.
