Job summary

SSE plc in Scotland is seeking a Contract Manager to join the Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team supporting the RIIO T3 Onshore Capital Delivery programme. This is a permanent, full-time role reporting to the Senior Contract Manager, delivering pre and post contract procurement and commercial support for major SSE Transmission projects.

Applicants should hold a Quantity Surveying degree with membership to RICS or CICES, and have experience in estimating, cost & budget management, and contract

Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • Professional membership of RICS or CICES is desirable.
  • Experience with estimating, cost & budget management, and contract administration.
  • Experience drafting/interpreting commercial contracts and knowledge of standard forms.
  • Experience with NEC contracts is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Negotiate contract terms and costs for high-value projects.
  • Ensure prices are substantiated and provide value for money.
  • Engage stakeholders to influence and resolve disputes.
  • Manage cost & forecast reporting and change control.
  • Provide post-contract commercial management and handle compensation events.
  • Uphold safety policies and promote safe working practices.

Base Location:

You’ll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, and Perth

Salary:

£51,600- £77,400 + car /car allowance - if applicable + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Contract Managers to join our Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team supporting the RIIO T3 Onshore Capital Delivery programme.

Reporting to the Senior Contract Manager or Procurement & Commercial Manager, you will provide the necessary pre and post contract procurement and commercial support to some the largest projects within the SSEN Transmission business. This is an excellent opportunity to grow within the SSE portfolio and contribute to the continued growth of this area of the business.

This role would someone from a Quantity Surveying background with experience working either Client or Contractor side, no specific experience working in Energy sector is required but would be advantageous.

You will
  • Support the P&C Manager / Senior Contract Manager in negotiating contract T&C’s for projects of significant value and subsequent commercial management of the delivery phase.
  • Negotiate contract prices and ensure all contract prices can be substantiated and provide value for money to consumers.
  • Demonstrate extensive stakeholder engagement and management skills, and the ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes together with problem-solving.
  • Be involved in Cost and Forecast Management via regular cost reporting and ensuring change management procedures are adhered to, Payment and Expenditure Management and Cost Estimating.
  • Provide robust post-contract commercial management which will support the project goals and objectives, including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensuring that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.
  • Comply with all safety policies and procedures, promote safety and safe working practices both internally and externally to improve safety performance.
You have
  • A degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification and have or be working towards professional membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS or CICES.
  • Knowledge and understanding of commercial governance arrangements for the development and execution of large capital projects together with commercial, contract or cost experience in delivering projects.
  • Experience of estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration
  • Experience of drafting and interpreting commercial contracts together with knowledge of Standard Form construction contracts and bespoke contract arrangements.
  • Experience of working with NEC contracts would be advantageous.
