Job summary

SSE plc in the United Kingdom is seeking Contract Managers to join our Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team delivering the RIIO T3 Onshore Capital Delivery programme. You will provide pre- and post-contract procurement and commercial support for major projects, reporting to the Senior Contract Manager or Procurement & Commercial Manager.

This role suits a Quantity Surveying graduate with exposure to commercial governance, cost management and contract administration.

Qualifications

• A degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
• Member of RICS or CICES (desirable).
• Experience in estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management and contract administration.
• Experience drafting and interpreting commercial contracts.
• Experience with NEC contracts would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Negotiate contract terms and manage commercial delivery for high‑value projects.
• Negotiate prices and ensure value for money for consumers.
• Engage stakeholders, influence decisions and resolve disputes.
• Lead cost and forecast management, change control, payments and expenditure.
• Provide post‑contract commercial management including compensation events.
• Ensure safety policies and practices are followed.

Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following locations: Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness, and Perth

Salary: £51,600- £77,400 + car /car allowance - if applicable + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Contract Managers to join our Procurement and Commercial (P&C) team supporting the RIIO T3 Onshore Capital Delivery programme.

Reporting to the Senior Contract Manager or Procurement & Commercial Manager, you will provide the necessary pre and post contract procurement and commercial support to some the largest projects within the SSEN Transmission business. This is an excellent opportunity to grow within the SSE portfolio and contribute to the continued growth of this area of the business.

This role would someone from a Quantity Surveying background with experience working either Client or Contractor side, no specific experience working in Energy sector is required but would be advantageous.

You will

• Support the P&C Manager / Senior Contract Manager in negotiating contract T&C’s for projects of significant value and subsequent commercial management of the delivery phase.
• Negotiate contract prices and ensure all contract prices can be substantiated and provide value for money to consumers.
• Demonstrate extensive stakeholder engagement and management skills, and the ability to influence, lead and resolve disputes together with problem‑solving.
• Be involved in Cost and Forecast Management via regular cost reporting and ensuring change management procedures are adhered to, Payment and Expenditure Management and Cost Estimating.
• Provide robust post‑contract commercial management which will support the project goals and objectives, including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensuring that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.
• Comply with all safety policies and procedures, promote safety and safe working practices both internally and externally to improve safety performance.

You have

• A degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent qualification and have or be working towards professional membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS or CICES.
• Knowledge and understanding of commercial governance arrangements for the development and execution of large capital projects together with commercial, contract or cost experience in delivering projects.
• Experience of estimating, sourcing management, cost & budget management, and contract administration
• Experience of drafting and interpreting commercial contracts together with knowledge of Standard Form construction contracts and bespoke contract arrangements.
• Experience of working with NEC contracts would be advantageous.
