Job description

The post is for a Consultant to join the Emergency Department in Bangor on a permanent basis. The department handles around 52,000 patient visits per year and seeks to offer a high standard of rural Emergency Medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to clinical and educational activities within the Directorate, provide a high quality service to the local population, and participate in an emergency on-call commitment. The current on-call rota is 1 in 8, with the post holder expected to cover colleagues during leave. The role includes supervision and teaching of junior trainees, involvement in local clinical governance activities (including clinical audit and risk initiatives), and collaboration with local management for efficient service delivery. Travel between hospitals/clinics as necessary is required with a planned and cost-effective approach. The post holder will have access to a full administrative and clerical support team, as well as office facilities with PC, e-mail, and internet access.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register or eligible for award of CCT within 6 months
  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • FRCEM or equivalent higher qualification
  • Member MDU / MPS / MDDUS

Desirable

  • ALS / ATLS / APLS / EPLS Instructor status
Experience

Essential

  • Appropriate experience in recognised training grade posts leading to CCT in Emergency Medicine (or comparable training and experience as demonstrated by possession of a CESR in EM)

Desirable

  • Sub-specialist interest in a subject relevant to Emergency Medicine
