Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) is Wales's largest health organisation, with a budget of over £2.4 billion and a workforce of over 20,000 staff. The Health Board provides primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for the population of North Wales. BCUHB provides a full range of primary, community, mental health, acute and specialist hospital services across 3 acute hospitals and a network of community hospitals, health centres, clinics, and mental health units. It also co-ordinates or provides the work of GP practices and NHS services provided by dentists, opticians, and pharmacists across the region. The Health Board is an integrated health system that strives for excellent, compassionate care delivered in partnership with the public sector and other statutory and third sector organisations.
The post is for a Consultant to join the Emergency Department in Bangor on a permanent basis. The department handles around 52,000 patient visits per year and seeks to offer a high standard of rural Emergency Medicine. The successful candidate will contribute to clinical and educational activities within the Directorate, provide a high quality service to the local population, and participate in an emergency on-call commitment. The current on-call rota is 1 in 8, with the post holder expected to cover colleagues during leave. The role includes supervision and teaching of junior trainees, involvement in local clinical governance activities (including clinical audit and risk initiatives), and collaboration with local management for efficient service delivery. Travel between hospitals/clinics as necessary is required with a planned and cost-effective approach. The post holder will have access to a full administrative and clerical support team, as well as office facilities with PC, e-mail, and internet access.
