Overview

Permanent, full-time, Consultant Clinical Psychologist to lead the Complex Emotional & Relational Needs (CERN) pathway across the borough of HMR and help transform community mental health services in line with the NHS Long Term Plan.

You will join a team of structured clinical management (SCM) practitioners, secondary care colleagues, DBT, MBT and DTC services, and colleagues across four boroughs who also lead CERN pathways, working with a range of professionals to shape service delivery.

Main duties
  • Take a strategic clinical lead within HMR for policy and service developments relating to adults (including older adults) with complex emotional and relational needs and/or a diagnosis of personality disorder.
  • Provide expert leadership and supervision to MDT colleagues across inpatient, community and specialist services.
  • Support the Trust Lead for CERN at a GM level and contribute to strategic development of services for people with complex emotional and relational needs.
  • Lead the development of multi-agency leadership teams with inputs from experts by experience, carers and other stakeholders to develop pathways and networks.
  • Work with existing networks to develop service-user involvement schemes for people with CERN within the Trust.
  • Carry a small specialised clinical caseload and lead the development and provision of specific psychotherapeutic programmes for CERN, including Structured Clinical Management.

Person Specification

Education/ Qualifications – Essential:

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or equivalent post-qualification CPD; eligible to be a member of the British Psychological Society; HCPC registered; post-graduate qualification in a psychological therapy approach; evidence of training in psychological therapies for personality disorder; ongoing CPD.

Experience – Essential:

  • Experience and track record in senior clinical leadership within psychological therapy services; substantial experience delivering evidence-based interventions for personality disorder or complex emotional needs (e.g., DBT, SCM, MBT); experience supervising others; experience training multi-professional groups; multidisciplinary and multi-agency work; risk assessment and safeguarding; experience in a multicultural context; service development.

Knowledge – Essential:

  • Knowledge of current government strategy and NHS Long Term Plan implications; broad understanding of Integrated Care Systems and Primary Care Networks; extensive knowledge of evidence for interventions for complex emotional and relational needs; trauma-informed practice principles.

Skills and Abilities – Essential:

  • Advanced clinical skills in psychological interventions, supervision, leadership, and interprofessional collaboration; ability to lead change, manage budgets, problem-solve, and work under pressure.

Work related circumstances – Essential:

  • Ability to prioritise workload, travel as needed within the Trust footprint, commitment to anti-discriminatory practice, and awareness of DBS requirements.
