A leading UK health institution is seeking a Consultant Breast Radiologist to provide specialized services at the Breast Centre. The role includes responsibilities in mammography, ultrasound, and teaching medical students and residents. Candidates should have broad experience in Breast Radiology and be on the Specialist Register. The position offers a competitive salary and is open to flexible working arrangements.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Consultant Breast Radiologist based within the Breast Centre at University Hospital Llandough and Breast Test Wales.
The Cardiff Breast Centre is a dedicated purpose-built centre situated within University Hospital Llandough in Cardiff, which is the popular capital city of Wales. This modern, dynamic centre consists of clinic rooms, state of the art radiology facilities, counselling rooms, multidisciplinary teaching room, gym facilities for patients exercise prescription, and offices for staff. The unit currently has four full-time Consultant Breast Surgeons and a Specialty Doctor.
Breast Test Wales (BTW) is the national breast cancer screening programme for Wales and screens on average 120,000 women per annum. BTW has 11 mobile screening vans and 4 static centres where the film reading, assessment clinics and MDT meetings are held.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 per annum to £160,951 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
The appointee will provide specialist breast radiology services to the Breast Centre and Breast Test Wales. The post holder should be competent in mammography reporting, breast and axillary ultrasound, image guided biopsy of breast and axilla and MRI reporting. Experience in additional procedures such as vacuum assisted biopsy / excision, pre-operative localisation techniques, and ultrasound guided biopsy / stereotactic guided core biopsy is desirable.
The post holder will be expected to undertake symptomatic and screening breast assessment clinics and be actively engaged with the breast MDT. The weekly timetable is variable and the content of the clinical sessions may change dependent upon service need following workload planning meetings.
There is opportunity to teach medical students as well as radiology and surgical specialist registrars. Cardiff promotes skill mix in the workforce and the post holder will be expected to support the training and ongoing work of the allied health professionals undertaking extended roles within breast services.
Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
