Job summary

Prospero Teaching is recruiting for a Construction Teacher to join an expanding alternative provision in Solihull, delivering a practical construction curriculum to small groups of SEMH students.

You will cover bricklaying, carpentry, plastering, painting and general maintenance, using trauma-informed strategies, with emphasis on employability skills and City & Guilds qualifications; support pastoral needs and maintain a safe workshop.

Qualifications

• Experience working with young people with SEND/SEMH needs.
• Strong behaviour management and deskills.
• Practical experience in construction trades.
• Ability to deliver engaging small-group sessions.
• Confidence leading sessions alongside and directing support staff.
• Desirable: Teaching qualification (QTS or equivalent).
• Experience delivering City & Guilds or vocational qualifications.
• Assessing / IQA qualifications.
• Understanding of trauma informed school.
• Knowledge of Functional Skills & City & Guilds curriculum.
• Non-QTS will be considered for this opportunity.

Responsibilities

• Deliver practical hands-on construction sessions to small groups.
• Support students' pastoral needs and EHCP targets.
• Maintain a safe, well-organised workshop with health and safety standards.
• Work with support staff to track progress and outcomes.
