Job summary

A leading educational agency in Newcastle seeks a passionate Construction Tutor to support secondary pupils in a PRU setting. This full-time role involves planning engaging Construction lessons, managing challenging behaviour, and building positive relationships with students. Prospero Teaching is looking for a passionate, proactive and enthusiastic Construction Tutor to support the learning of pupils in one of our inspirational PRU Settings in Newcastle on a full‑time and long‑term basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to build positive relationships with pupils and have a long‑term, positive impact on their lives, progress and development.

About the Role
  • The role will involve planning and teaching engaging and informative Construction sessions that inspire pupils with a wide range of SEN and allows all pupils to make progress.
  • Working with secondary aged pupils within a PRU setting who have a wide range of SEN and challenging behaviour on a 1:1 basis and in small intervention groups.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils and teaching assistants to create excellent learning environments.
  • Managing challenging behaviour in a positive, proactive and consistent manner.
  • Differentiating lessons appropriately to suit the needs and earning styles of all pupils.
  • Using varied methods of assessment to assess pupil progress.
  • Displaying high levels of enthusiasm, energy and positivity when working with children.
  • Working effectively with teaching assistants to ensure children receive the best possible educational experience.
About the School
  • The role is based in an inspirational PRU setting in Newcastle.
  • The school supports pupils across the secondary school age range who have been excluded from mainstream education.
Pay, Hours and Contract
  • Pay: Between £110-145 per day.
  • Hours: 08:30-16:00.
  • Contract: Full‑time until the end of the academic year in July 2025. Temporary contract.
  • Start Date: ASAP.
  • Location: Newcastle.
Experience / Qualifications and Requirements
  • An Enhanced DBS (ideally on the Update Service but not essential).
  • Construction tutoring or teaching experience of any kind.
  • Strong behaviour management skills.
  • Experience of utilising a range of methods to assess pupil progress.
  • Preferably some experience in plastering, bricklaying, DT or painting.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills with an ability to build rapport.
  • A positive and resilient attitude towards teaching and work.
  • A genuine passion for teaching and supporting young people to develop their skills.
  • Strong organisation and communication skills.
