Job summary

Based in Aberdeen, Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Site Based Construction Manager with cabling expertise to lead HV cable installation on a major transmission project. You will oversee site teams, ensure safety, quality, and environmental standards, and deliver milestones on time and to budget.

You will work closely with project managers and Highways Authorities, manage subcontractors, plan resources, and drive a collaborative, compliant approach across the works and stakeholders to achieve

Qualifications

• Track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.
• Understanding of mechanical/electrical aspects at 132kV+ and related safety standards.
• Experience in a construction/engineering management role.
• Familiarity with standard forms of contracts and commercial processes.

Responsibilities

• Support Project Managers in profitability and risk management while upholding safety, sustainability and quality.
• Promote collaborative working with clients and stakeholders to meet requirements.
• Lead Site Engineers to ensure safety and technical compliance with policies.
• Plan work and manage materials, plant and equipment for the project.
• Oversee resources and staffing, monitor subcontractors and quality control.
• Ensure on-time delivery and budget adherence; manage design reviews.

About the role

Join our Power Transmission and Distribution team as a Site Based Construction Manager with Cabling expertisewithin our Operational Team. You will need to understand HV Cables at transmission voltage and deliver complex work that really matters to our business, and the world around you.

You will be working on our project in the Aberdeen area

As a Construction Manager you'll:

• Support the Project Managers in their responsibility for overall profit and loss of a standard or major project whilst ensuring the highest standards of safety, sustainability, environmental and quality are implemented
• Promote a collaborative working environment which ensures client, internal and other stakeholders requirements are effectively managed, and employees feel motivated and engaged to deliver

What you'll be doing

• Manage Site Engineers / Project Engineers to ensure that all work undertaken satisfies all required safety and technical policies and procedures
• Plan the work and oversee the requirements for necessary materials, plant and equipment
• Oversee the requirements for resource and then manage staff for the project
• Manage the construction site(s) on a day-to-day basis, including supervising the labour force, monitoring subcontractors, checking materials, inspecting work and overseeing quality control
• Ensure that all work is carried out according to required standards and be responsible for effective liaison and collaboration with Highways Authorities, Local Authorities and other Utilities providers etc.
• Ensure the project is delivered on time and on budget by setting benchmarks, agreeing budgets and monitoring progress
• Check design documents
• Responsible for a working environment which ensures the achievement of all safety and environmental legislation, engineering and customer standards.

Who we're looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

• Able to demonstrate a track record of project delivery
• Have a general understanding of mechanical and electrical at 132kV and above.
• Experience working in a similar role
• Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts
• Proficient in commercial/project management communications
• Experience in implementing safe systems of work
• Experience in improving current safety systems in support of our safety initiatives - making safety personal
• Able to communicate effectively both verbal and written with all levels of the organisation
• Effective team management skills which empower, influence & inspire others to build effective teams.
• Providing mentoring and support to members of the team where required
• Commercially astute
• Full clean UK driving licence

• Degree Qualified in Electrical/Civil Engineering Discipline - desirable
• Qualification in APM - desirable
