Job summary

University of Glasgow is seeking a Laboratory Support role to assist and provide technical and teaching lab support to academic and student service users. The role contributes to smooth operation of teaching laboratories in line with college strategy.

Responsibilities include handling specialist equipment, maintaining records, guiding users on technical resources, and staying updated with advances in the discipline to enhance learning and research outcomes.

Qualifications

  • SCQF Level 5/6 (National 5/6 or Scottish Vocational Qualification level 2/3) or equivalent, plus experience of personal development in a similar role.
  • Detailed technical knowledge of relevant systems, equipment, protocols, processes and procedures.
  • Strong IT skills including standard and specialist software programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide knowledge exchange support to academic and student service users within the specified discipline.
  • Carry out a range of technical support activities including the use of specialist equipment, systems, procedures, protocols, models and/or techniques; contribute to development of new technical resources.
  • Keep clear and accurate records of teaching outputs and produce concise summaries for senior staff.
  • Contribute to well-organised laboratory functioning; maintain lab areas and address equipment faults.
  • Provide guidance to service users in the best use of technical resources.
  • Keep up to date with advances in the discipline and apply knowledge to enhance learning and research aims.

Education

SCQF Level 5/6 or equivalent
