Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is recruiting Band 2 Health Care Support Workers to join our hospital wards across NHSGGC. You will assist in delivering a high standard of nursing care to patients, under supervision, with full induction and ongoing learning opportunities.

The role requires full-time availability and a varied rotational shift pattern, including day and night shifts, weekends and public holidays.

Qualifications

• No formal qualification required
• Good standard of education
• Good verbal communication skills
• Good team-working skills
• Previous healthcare or care experience is advantageous

Responsibilities

• Assist with the nursing care of patients under the supervision of a trained nurse, including reception, admission, transfer and discharge of patients according to procedure.
• Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required/prescribed with fluid and nutritional intake.
• Observe and report any change in the condition of the patient and communicate this verbally to the nurse in charge.
• Assist patients who are unable to self-care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to all manual handling procedures and policies.
• Carry out and assist with minor investigatory procedures, e.g. urinalysis, faecal occult blood testing and urine collections, as required. Report all findings to the trained nurse.
• Participate in and assist with the updating and completion of accurate patient documentation as necessary, e.g. fluid charts and care rounding charts, and file documents appropriately when required.
• Be responsible for the cleaning and tidying of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding cupboards for the storage of controlled drugs and medicines, and report any defects or areas of concern to the nurse in charge.
• Maintain adequate stocks of supplies from central and clinical stores, excluding medicines.
