Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is seeking a Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker to join Ward 29 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. You will support the nursing team with delivering patient care and maintaining a safe, respectful environment.

Permanent full-time role (36 hours per week) with day, night and weekend shifts. Prior care experience is desirable; good communication and a compassionate approach are valued traits for this position.

Qualifications

• No formal qualification required.
• Good verbal communication.
• Good team worker.
• Basic IT skills advantageous, but not necessary.

Responsibilities

• Assists with the nursing care of the patient under the supervision of a trained nurse.
• Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required/prescribed with fluid and nutritional intake.
• Observes and reports any change in the condition of the patient and communicates this to the nurse in charge.
• Assists the patient unable to self care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to manual handling policies.
• Carries out minor investigatory procedures e.g.: Urinalysis, Faecal Occult Blood testing and Urine collections; reports findings to the nurse.
• Participates in updating and completing accurate patient documentation like fluid charts and Waterlow charts.
