Job summary

Staffordshire County Council is recruiting for a Specialist Day Opportunities Driver role based at The Pipers in Newcastle under Lyme. The post is 31.5 hours per week across four days, with 8.45am–4.30pm shifts, delivering safe, dignified transport and supporting adults with learning disabilities and autism.

Applicants should hold a current D1 license, have at least 3 years driving experience, and be able to assist with personal care and moving handling.

Qualifications

  • Current D1 driving license.
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience.
  • Experience of working with people with learning disabilities and autism.
  • ICT skills to complete digital record keeping.
  • Have effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to physically assist in personal care and/ or behavioural support, including moving and handling and wheelchair assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Drive vehicles, including adapted vehicles and minibuses.
  • Be responsible for the safe and dignified travel of the people we support.
  • Complete vehicle and equipment checks, minor routine maintenance tasks, and vehicle cleaning.
  • Support with care tasks as required, including personal care and manual handling.
  • Liaise professionally with individuals and their families, acting as a first point of contact.
  • You may be required to be responsible for the opening and closing of the building.

Skills

Education

NVQ level 2 or Care Certificate (nice to have)
