Job summary

The Crematorium and Memorial Group is hiring a Crematorium Assistant (20 hours per week) at Wear Valley Crematorium, Bishop Auckland. The role spans chapel support, grounds maintenance, and administrative duties to assist families with care and respect.

Applicants should be empathetic, physically fit for manual tasks, and comfortable using basic IT systems for bookings and inquiries. No formal qualifications are required.

Qualifications

• No formal qualifications required to join CMG.
• Ability to communicate with families with sensitivity and empathy.
• Willingness to learn a multi-skilled role and work across duties.

Responsibilities

• Support chapel services, including setting up seating and AV equipment.
• Assist witnesses with interments or ashes scatterings with care and discretion.
• Maintain crematorium grounds and memorial areas to a high standard.
• Assist families with memorial enquiries and provide compassionate guidance.
• Manage service bookings, keep accurate records, and handle invoicing.
• Respond to telephone and email enquiries professionally.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and use PPE correctly.
