Job summary

Homecare Gurus Ltd is seeking a compassionate Companion / Support Worker in Manchester to support a young adult with autism and a learning disability. The role focuses on providing person-centred companionship, social engagement and emotional support without medical tasks or personal care.

The ideal candidate will build trust, follow care plans, observe safety cues, and help the client grow confidence and independence through meaningful activities in the community and at home.

Qualifications

• Must have caring, calm and patient nature.
• Proven experience supporting adults with autism, learning disabilities, or other additional needs.
• Good communication and observation skills.
• Ability to follow a care/support plan and risk assessment.
• Must be reliable and punctual.
• Demonstrates respect for dignity, choice, privacy, and independence.
• Willingness to complete all required training.
• Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and build trust gradually.
• Comfortable providing companionship without pressuring the person to talk or interact constantly.

Responsibilities

• Providing calm, reassuring company and engaging in conversations, games, crafts, or music.
• Support hobbies, established routines, and structure during visits.
• Assist with safe social engagement both at home and within the community.
• Understand autism-related communication styles and sensory needs.
• Observe and respond appropriately to signs of distress, ensuring well-being at all times.
