Job summary

Luton Borough Council is looking for a Driver Assistant to support safe transportation of service users across Luton. You will help ensure passenger safety and comfort, communicate effectively with service users and colleagues, and respond calmly to delays or breakdowns.

The role requires a D1 licence, independence in driving assessments, and willingness to undertake safeguarding, first aid and other required training. Applicants may be eligible for training and ongoing development.

Qualifications

• Must hold a full D1 driving licence.
• Must pass an independent driving assessment.
• Excellent communication and customer–facing skills.
• Ability to work flexibly and follow safeguarding procedures.

Responsibilities

• Support the safe transport of children, young people and adults.
• Ensure passengers travel safely and comfortably on routes across Luton.
• Carry out daily vehicle checks and report faults promptly.
• Assist with safeguarding and inclusive, respectful service delivery.
