Job summary

British Red Cross is seeking a Service Support Worker to assist adults in their own homes and in the community, providing compassionate, practical care and emotional support. The role requires patience, reliability and the ability to make service users feel safe and valued.

Registering with the SSSC within 3 months is a condition of employment, and the position offers flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to suit service users’ needs.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills and a caring, respectful approach.
• Experience supporting people with physical, sensory, or mental health needs.
• Knowledge of community care resources and risk assessments.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends, and a willingness to register with the SSSC.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal, emotional, and practical support to adults in their own homes or community.
• Support service users with daily living tasks like bathing, dressing, meal prep, and medication.
• Liaise with health and social care professionals to ensure high-quality care.
• Promote safety and wellbeing through risk assessments and welfare checks.
