Job summary

Abingdon and Witney College is recruiting a Community Learning Lecturer to deliver Family Learning within the Oxfordshire Adult Learning faculty. The role focuses on supporting families to grow in confidence and engage with education in community and school settings.

You will use a range of teaching methods and digital tools, travel between venues, and work closely with schools and community partners to enhance learners' employability and life skills.

Qualifications

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, AET).
  • English and maths at Level 2 or above.
  • Ability to relate to diverse learner groups.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Job description

Salary: £34,391 - £44,558 per annum depending on experience and qualifications.

Hours per week: 37

Weeks per Annum: 52

Working pattern: Monday - Thursday 7.5 hours, Friday 7 hours

Location: Abingdon Campus

Contract type: Permanent

Start date: September 2026 / Immediate Start

We are recruiting for an inspirational Community Learning Lecturer , with specific responsibility for Family Learning, within the Oxfordshire Adult Learning (OAL) faculty . OAL is a large, award winning faculty of Abingdon and Witney College offering a wide range of adult learning courses including qualification based courses, leisure learning courses and works extensively with community partners across Oxfordshire.

This is a unique and highly rewarding opportunity to make a real difference, by supporting families to grow in confidence, develop essential skills, and foster a lifelong love of learning together. You will combine your expertise in teaching and learning with a genuine enthusiasm for working with families in community and educational settings.

Working with vulnerable families, in partnership with schools and with other community partners, you will support parents and guardians to better engage with their children's education, while also rediscovering their own learning journey. You will know how to engage, motivate, and inspire learners of all ages by creating inclusive, supportive environments where everyone can succeed.

You will have an excellent understanding of child development, cultural diversity, inclusive practice , promoting well-being and safeguarding. You will be confident in using a variety of teaching approaches and digital tools to enhance learning experiences. A willingness and ability to travel between venues is essential, as you will deliver engaging and high-quality workshops and courses within schools and across the wider community.

Essential Criteria
  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent.
  • Recogised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, AET).

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Teaching experience in a Primary School setting
  • Previous teaching experience with adults.

Any successful candidates will be required to complete a structured training pathway, unless they already hold the relevant qualifications. This includes a two-week teacher induction, followed by the Award in Education and Training (AET), and then the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher (LST) apprenticeship. There is also the option to pursue Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) at a later stage.
