Job summary

Softcat is seeking a Communications Manager to lead the strategy, planning and delivery of internal and external communications. You will work with senior stakeholders across the business, guiding messaging and protecting brand voice, shaping communications for measurable impact.

As a senior member of Softcat's Marketing department, you will oversee content across channels, drive performance, and mentor a team while staying ahead of industry trends to support business growth.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication; ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Significant experience in communications, PR, or marketing roles, with a track record of strategic initiatives.
  • Strong expertise in content strategy, messaging development, and multi-channel delivery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Deep understanding of digital communication tools, social media, and performance measurement.
  • Strong analytical skills with data-driven improvements.
  • Excellent organisational and project management abilities.
  • Experience leading high-performing teams.
  • Ability to work autonomously with accountability.

Responsibilities

Lead our Communications team

This is a senior role responsible for leading the strategy, planning, and delivery of internal and external communications. This role plays a critical part in shaping company‑wide messaging, protecting and evolving brand voice, and ensuring communications activity drives measurable impact.

As a Communications Manager, you will be a senior member of Softcat's Marketing department, with responsibility across all areas of communications. You will work closely with senior stakeholders across the business, providing expert guidance and owning the end‑to‑end delivery of high‑impact communications initiatives.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver and drive the communications strategy, ensuring alignment with wider business and marketing objectives.
  • Lead the planning and execution of integrated internal and external communications campaigns, from concept through to delivery and evaluation.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, providing guidance on messaging, tone of voice, positioning, and communications approach.
  • Oversee the creation of high‑quality content across all channels, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with brand and business priorities.
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on communications performance, using data and insights to optimise strategy and demonstrate impact.
  • Manage and prioritise complex communications requests, taking ownership of high‑profile or business‑critical activity.
  • Act as leadership within the Communications team, supporting best practices and contributing to overall team performance with line management responsibility.
  • Stay up to date with industry trends and best practices, using insights to inform communications strategy and recommend improvements.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging and influence and engage senior stakeholders.
  • Significant experience in communications, PR, or marketing roles, with a proven track record of delivering strategic communications initiatives in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Strong expertise in content strategy, messaging development, and multi‑channel communications delivery.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Deep understanding of digital communication tools, social media platforms, and performance measurement.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret data and translate insights into actionable improvements.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple complex priorities.
  • Experience in leading high‑performing teams.
  • Ability to work autonomously, take ownership and operate with a high degree of accountability.
Flexible Working Patterns
  • Hybrid working – 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home.
