Job summary

METLEN Energy & Metals is seeking a Commissioning Manager to lead commissioning activities for the EGL1 project in Murton, UK, within the Power Technologies department of the Thermal Power Plants & HVDC division. You will oversee planning, execution, and problem resolution on-site, coordinating internal teams and external subcontractors to ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or related discipline.
  • 7+ years in managerial commissioning roles within energy/power/industrial sectors.
  • Experience with EPC projects in thermal power, HV systems, or large industrial facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities ensuring compliance with specifications and standards.
  • Resolve technical commissioning issues arising during project execution.
  • Coordinate commissioning personnel including internal teams and external subcontractors.
  • Support selection and management of commissioning specialists and subcontractors.
  • Liaise with client to meet contractual and technical commissioning requirements.
  • Develop and review commissioning procedures, risk assessments, and schedules.

Job Description Commissioning Manager 27/07/2026 Job Description: We are currently looking for a Commissioning Manager to lead the commissioning activities for the EGL1 project, supporting the Power Technologies department of the Thermal Power Plants & HVDC division of Metlen, based in Murton, UK.

What your role will encompass:
  • Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities, ensuring technical integrity and compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Evaluate, assess, and resolve technical commissioning issues arising during project execution.
  • Coordinate and manage commissioning personnel, including both internal teams and external subcontractors.
  • Support the selection, negotiation, and management of commissioning specialists and subcontractors required during the commissioning phase.
  • Liaise closely with the client to ensure all commissioning-related contractual and technical requirements are met.
  • Develop and review commissioning procedures, work method statements, risk assessments, and commissioning schedules.
  • Identify and implement solutions to equipment malfunctions, performance issues, or project challenges that may impact schedule and commissioning milestones.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to commissioning personnel and project stakeholders.
  • Promote the Company’s Code of Conduct, safety culture, and ethical standards across the commissioning team.
  • Support the development and performance management of commissioning personnel.
  • Contribute to the development of internal standards, procedures, and best practices for commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors and specialist service providers to support successful project delivery.
  • Monitor and report commissioning progress to project and departmental management.
What you bring to the role:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in managerial commissioning roles within the energy, power generation, or industrial sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in EPC projects, preferably within thermal power generation, CCGT, energy infrastructure, HV systems, or large industrial facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of commissioning methodologies, testing procedures, and start-up activities.
  • Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary commissioning teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Experience developing commissioning plans, procedures, and project execution strategies.
  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient in MS Office and project reporting tools.
  • Ability to work effectively in a demanding site-based environment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and project delivery.
