Job summary

METLEN Energy & Metals in its Grid & Digital Solutions unit seeks a Site Mechanical Engineer for the EGL1 Project at Torness. You will support on-site mechanical construction activities, ensuring alignment with project specs, budget and schedule while promoting a strong safety culture.

The role involves coordinating with Project Managers, contractors and subcontractors, performing inspections, resolving issues, and contributing to pre-construction input with the design team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2+ years of experience in mechanical erection works or maintenance.
• Experience in heavy industrial environments (power plants, refineries, CCGT, HVAC).
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, procedures and specs.
• Fluent in English; strong communication and teamwork.

We are currently looking for aSite Mechanical Engineer to join the Grid & Digital Solutions department, as part of the Thermal Power & HVDC division of Metlen, for the EGL1 Project, based in Torness.

The role will support the construction execution of projects, contributing to delivery in line with project objectives, contractual requirements, safety standards, quality expectations, budget, and schedule.

Your role will encompass:

• Supporting mechanical construction activities on site, ensuring alignment with project specifications, budget, and schedule.
• Coordinating with Project Managers, contractors, and subcontractors to support the planning and execution of mechanical installations.
• Performing regular inspections and quality checks to ensure works are carried out in line with project and industry standards.
• Identifying and supporting the resolution of mechanical issues arising during construction.
• Collaborating with the design team during the pre-construction phase, providing input on mechanical systems where required.
• Maintaining accurate documentation of mechanical works performed on site.
• Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and promoting a strong safety culture across site activities.

What you bring to the role:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 2+ years of experience in mechanical erection works or maintenance, preferably within heavy industrial environments such as power plants, refineries, CCGT, HVAC, or broader energy projects.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and civil construction drawings, procedures, and specifications.
• Fluency in English.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in multicultural project teams.
