Job summary

NES Fircroft seeks an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support a major Energy from Waste facility in the Midlands. You will lead commissioning, testing, start-up and handover of critical plant systems, ensuring safe operation and project milestones are met.

The role requires hands-on boiler and Flue Gas Treatment knowledge, the ability to read P&IDs, and strong HSE and stakeholder management skills to coordinate with construction, operations and engineering teams during the start-up phase.

Qualifications

• Proven commissioning experience in energy from waste or heavy industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of boiler systems and steam generation.
• Experience with FGT (Flue Gas Treatment) systems.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs and process diagrams.
• Commitment to high HSE and quality standards.

Commissioning Engineer

About the Role-

Our Client is seeking an experienced Commissioning Engineer to support the delivery of a well established Energy from Waste Facility in The Midlands. The successful candidate will play a key role in the commissioning, testing, start-up and handover of critical plant systems, ensuring safe and efficient operation of the facility.

Key Responsibilities-

• Support and execute commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical and process systems.
• Develop, review and implement commissioning procedures, method statements and test documentation.
• Lead system walkdowns, punch list management and turnover activities.
• Coordinate commissioning activities with construction, operations and engineering teams.
• Conduct pre-commissioning, cold commissioning and hot commissioning activities.
• Oversee performance testing and system optimisation during start-up phases.
• Ensure all commissioning activities are carried out in compliance with project HSE requirements.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and provide practical solutions to achieve commissioning milestones.
• Liaise with equipment vendors and specialist subcontractors during testing and start-up phases.
• Support the successful handover of systems to the operations team.

Essential Requirements-

• Proven commissioning experience on Energy from Waste, Biomass, Power Generation, CHP, Industrial Process or Heavy Industrial projects.
• Strong knowledge of boiler systems, steam generation and associated balance of plant equipment.
• Previous experience commissioning Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) systems.
• Understanding of commissioning processes, procedures and documentation.
• Ability to interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams and technical documentation.
• Strong focus on health, safety and quality standards.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable Requirements-

• Previous experience with Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) boiler technology.
• Experience commissioning waste-to-energy or thermal treatment facilities.
• Familiarity with DCS, control systems and process optimisation during start-up phases.
• HNC/HND or Degree qualification in Mechanical, Process, Chemical or Electrical Engineering.
