Job summary

Astute People are recruiting Boiler Commissioning Engineers for an Energy from Waste project on a 3-4 month contract, starting in October 2026. The role is on-site in the West Midlands, UK, with a competitive day rate and Outside IR35.

You will lead commissioning of EFW boiler systems, review technical documentation, and collaborate with the Flue Gas Treatment team to ensure integrated operation and handover to reliable plant performance.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Boiler Commissioning Engineer on major industrial power, energy or process projects.
• Strong practical commissioning experience with EFW boiler systems.
• Proven experience with Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) systems within an EFW environment.
• Experience commissioning large-scale thermal treatment / waste-to-energy facilities.

Responsibilities

• Support the commissioning and start-up of EFW boiler systems from construction completion through to reliable operation.
• Review and verify mechanical completion, commissioning documentation, test packs, system boundaries and punch lists.
• Develop and execute commissioning procedures, inspection and test plans, functional tests and performance testing.
• Commission boiler systems and associated equipment, including boiler pressure parts and associated systems, economisers and steam systems.

Astute's Power team are looking to recruit Boiler Commissioning Engineers on an Energy from Waste Project on a 3-4-month minimum contract basis for an October start.

Key skills

• Support the commissioning and start-up of EFW boiler systems from construction completion through to reliable operation.
• Review and verify mechanical completion, commissioning documentation, test packs, system boundaries and punch lists.
• Develop and execute commissioning procedures, inspection and test plans, functional tests and performance testing.
• Commission boiler systems and associated equipment, including:
  • Boiler pressure parts and associated systems.
  • Economisers, evaporators, superheaters and steam systems.
  • Boiler feedwater and condensate systems.
  • Boiler circulation and drain systems.
  • Steam blow / flushing activities.
  • Safety valves and associated protection systems.
  • Boiler auxiliaries and associated mechanical equipment.
• Work closely and in the Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) commissioning teamto ensure the boiler and FGT systems are correctly integrated and commissioned.
• Support commissioning of interfaces between the boiler, combustion system, flue gas system and FGT plant.
• Must have proven experience as a Boiler Commissioning Engineer / Commissioning Engineeron major industrial power, energy or process projects.
• Strong practical commissioning experience with EFW boiler systems.
• Proven experience with Flue Gas Treatment (FGT) systems within an EFW environment.
• Experience commissioning large-scale thermal treatment / waste-to-energy facilities.
