Job summary

Mitie in Liverpool is seeking a Commercial Plumbing and Heating Engineer (Shift) to lead planned and reactive maintenance across domestic water, heating and mechanical services at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. You will work with the estates team, ensure compliance with HTM standards and CDM regulations, and use PDA technology to record activities and evidence compliance.

Qualifications

• Completed a Level 3 plumbing and heating apprenticeship or equivalent.
• Extensive experience with commercial plumbing and wet heating systems.
• Strong troubleshooting across complex mechanical systems.
• Solid knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, CDM requirements and HTM environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management; able to work independently and with teams.

Responsibilities

• Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across domestic water, LTHW, CT, VT, piped medical gas and compressed air systems.
• Carry out servicing, fault finding, repairs and component replacement on pumps, calorifiers, heat exchangers, valves, RPZs, water tanks and related plant.
• Collaborate with specialist BMS contractors and estates team to ensure systems meet design and statutory obligations.
• Utilise PDA technology to evidence compliance and accurately record maintenance activities.
• Promote continuous improvement and support risk management and right-first-time service delivery.

Role Responsibilities:

• Deliver planned and reactive maintenance across domestic water, LTHW, CT, VT, piped medical gas and compressed air systems.
• Carry out servicing, fault finding, repairs and component replacement on pumps, calorifiers, heat exchangers, valves, RPZs, water tanks, booster sets and associated mechanical plant.
• Collaborate with specialist BMS contractors and the wider estates team to ensure systems perform in line with design requirements and statutory obligations.
• Utilise PDA technology to evidence compliance, complete maintenance activities and accurately record technical documentation.
• Promote continuous improvement, support operational risk management and contribute to a culture of right first time service delivery and customer excellence.

Required Qualifications:

• Completed a recognised plumbing and heating apprenticeship to Level 3 or hold an equivalent Level 3 qualification in Commercial Plumbing and Heating.
• Strong commercial plumbing and heating maintenance experience with extensive knowledge of wet heating systems and building mechanical services.
• Demonstrable troubleshooting, fault-finding and problem-solving skills across complex mechanical systems.
• Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, CDM requirements and compliance standards, including HTM-related environments.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and customer service skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
