Job summary

Mitie is seeking a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for day shifts at Royal Victoria Infirmary and Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. You will support planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across hospital sites, ensuring plant and equipment are safe, compliant and operational.

Role involves completing PPMs, maintaining systems (DHW, LTHW, ventilation), and assisting with subcontractors. DBS check required; 18th Edition/2391 desirable; opportunities for development and site-based work.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical and/or multi-skilled building services maintenance.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation; able to work safely on own or in a team.
• Excellent communication, customer service and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to pass a DBS check prior to commencement of employment.
• General building maintenance or fabric maintenance experience desirable; 18th Edition/2391 desirable.

Responsibilities

• Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) in line with contractual requirements and schedules.
• Maintain mechanical plant/equipment per O&M manuals, legislation, standards and best practice.
• Respond to reactive maintenance tasks within SLAs and complete reports accurately.
• Assist with supervision of subcontractors, ensuring safe systems of work and procedures.
• Keep plant rooms and service areas clean, safe, secure and orderly.

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week (Shift Pattern: 7:00am to 3:00pm and 12:00pm to 8:00pm on a rotational basis)

Role Responsibilities

• Complete planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in line with contractual requirements and maintenance schedules.
• Maintain mechanical plant and equipment in accordance with O&M manuals, legislation, industry standards and best practice.
• Respond to reactive maintenance tasks within agreed service levels, completing all associated reports and documentation accurately.
• Assist with the supervision of subcontractors, ensuring compliance with safe systems of work, policies and procedures.
• Ensure all plant rooms and service areas are maintained in a clean, safe, secure and organised condition.

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience in mechanical and/or multi-skilled building services maintenance, including DHW, LTHW and ventilation systems.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety legislation with the ability to work safely under own initiative and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication, customer service and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to delivering high-quality service standards.
• Ability to pass a DBS check prior to commencement of employment.
• General building maintenance or fabric maintenance experience is desirable.
• 18th Edition and/or City & Guilds 2391 qualifications are desirable.
