Job summary

Sodexo Ltd is seeking a qualified Commercial Gas & Heating Engineer to join the Facilities Management team at HMP Northumberland. The role involves gas safety inspections, servicing and maintenance across the prison estate, ensuring work complies with current legislation and standards.

You will read drawings, perform CP inspections, and handle PPM tasks while maintaining thorough safety records and collaborating with the wider engineering team. A hands-on, varied position with on-call duties.

Qualifications

• Gas Safe Registered Engineer status required.
• Completion of a recognised Commercial Gas/Heating apprenticeship.
• Industry recognised gas qualifications (ACS, COCN1, CDGA1, ICPN1).
• Experience maintaining and repairing commercial gas-fired equipment and heating systems.
• Strong knowledge of commercial gas safety legislation and compliance requirements.
• Ability to work independently or in a team with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Carry out commercial gas safety inspections, testing, servicing and maintenance.
• Complete CP15 and CP17 inspections and certification.
• Diagnose faults and repair commercial gas-fired heating, hot water and ventilation systems.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and manufacturer instructions.
• Undertake planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance.
• Maintain accurate gas safety records and complete documentation.
• Support general maintenance activities and collaborate with the engineering team.
• Escort specialist contractors as required.
• Participate in the out-of-hours on-call rota.
• Work in line with Health & Safety legislation, Gas Safe regulations and Sodexo policies.

Salary: Up to £45,000 plus overtime allowance

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

We're looking for a qualified and experienced

Commercial Gas & Heating Engineer to join our Facilities Management team at HMP Northumberland.

This is an opportunity to use your specialist skills in a role that combines technical expertise with a genuine contribution to the safe operation of a secure environment.

As part of our maintenance team, you'll be responsible for carrying out gas safety inspections, testing, servicing, maintenance and repairs across the prison estate, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with current legislation and industry standards.

What you'll be doing

• Carrying out commercial gas safety inspections, testing, servicing and maintenance.
• Completing CP15 and CP17 inspections and certification.
• Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs to commercial gas-fired heating, hot water and ventilation systems.

About the role

This is a varied, hands-on position where no two days are the same.

The role can be physically demanding and will involve activities such as climbing, crawling, lifting and working in confined spaces. You'll also be responsible for the safe use and security of tools and equipment.

Additional training may be provided where required, including specialist prison maintenance training such as locksmithing to support wider site maintenance requirements.
