Job summary

You will partner with the MD and senior team to shape strategy, lead a commercial team, and ensure robust governance.

Qualifications

• Extensive commercial management experience in civil engineering or construction.
• Experience at Commercial Director or senior commercial leadership level.
• Proven track record of leading commercial teams.
• Experience overseeing the commercial performance of multiple projects.
• Strong understanding of profitability, forecasting, cashflow and reporting.
• Knowledge of NEC, JCT and bespoke contracts.
• Strong contractual knowledge and risk management.
• Experience implementing commercial procedures and governance.
• Commercially astute with margin improvement focus.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management.
• Willingness to operate at strategic and operational levels.
• Evidence of delivering measurable business benefits.
• Strong relationship-building with clients and suppliers.
• Member of RICS, CICES or working toward membership advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the commercial function and strategy of the business.
• Provide senior commercial leadership across a portfolio of civil engineering projects.
• Collaborate with the MD and senior leadership on growth and financial performance.
• Lead, manage and develop the commercial team, including QS and planners.
• Establish robust commercial procedures and governance across the business.
• Oversee project profitability, forecasting, CVRs, cashflow and WIP.
• Drive margin improvement, cost control and risk management across projects.
• Act as senior escalation point for contractual, commercial and financial matters.
• Oversee contract strategy, procurement, cost recovery and negotiations.
• Ensure valuations, applications, variations and final accounts are managed.
• Provide commercial oversight of project performance and risk/opportunity reporting.
• Lead regular commercial reviews and reporting to leadership and the Operating Board.
• Support operations in resolving contractual and commercial issues.
• Build relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
• Play a key role in work-winning and tender strategy.
• Develop long-term client relationships and repeat business.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and systems.
• Provide commercial insights to support future planning and growth.
