Job summary

Optical Precision is seeking a CNC Turner, Programmer and Setter for a late shift on a four-day week. You will program, set up and run 2-axis CNC lathes, writing new programs from scratch and editing as needed.

The role requires reading engineering drawings, applying feeds, speeds and tooling, and ensuring high-quality results on small- to mid-sized parts. The position offers a permanent, full-time contract, a late shift with premium and a four-day week.

Qualifications

• Proven experience programming, setting and operating 2-axis CNC turning machines.
• Able to write new CNC programs from scratch / long-hand at the machine, with little or no supervision.
• Strong working knowledge of G-code programming.
• Confident completing the full machine set-up from engineering drawing to finished component, including material, tooling, speeds and cutting conditions.
• Able to edit and optimise existing programs where required.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings, geometric tolerances, surface finishes and in-process inspection.
• Experience producing one-off and low-to-medium-volume precision components in a range of hard and soft metals.

£52,000 - £58,000 Per Annum

Experienced CNC Turner / Programmer, Setter, looking for a permanent four-day working week?

Join a well-established precision engineering company where more than 50% of our team have over 10 years' service.

Working our established late shift means Monday to Thursday working, every Friday off, and actual earnings of approximately £52,000 - £58,000 per annum including the late-shift premium, depending on experience.

Applicants must already be resident in the UK and have the right to work in the UK. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

CNC Turner, Programmer, Setter - Essential experience

• Proven experience programming, setting and operating 2-axis CNC turning machines.
• Able to write new CNC programs from scratch / long-hand at the machine, with little or no supervision.
• Strong working knowledge of G-code programming.
• Confident completing the full machine set-up from engineering drawing to finished component, including material, tooling, speeds, feeds and cutting conditions.

• Confident working on parts from approximately Ø25 mm x 100 mm up to Ø300 mm x 3 m. Hoist training is provided.
• Quality-driven, self-motivated and able to work effectively with minimal supervision.

• Permanent, full-time position with an immediate start available.
• Four-day week: Monday-Wednesday 4.30 pm-3.30 am; Thursday 4.30 pm-1.00 am.
• Late-shift premium paid at time plus one third.
