Job summary

Kurt J. Lesker Company Ltd is hiring a CNC Team Leader to manage our machining cell in Hastings. The role requires strong CNC programming, CAM software experience, and a background in mechanical engineering. You will lead a team, mentor operators, and ensure parts are produced to specification on time.

This full‑time position at our European HQ in St. Leonards-on-Sea involves 3–5 axis setup, process improvement, and a focus on safety and quality across shifts.

Qualifications

• Qualified in Mechanical/Manufacturing technology or equivalent experience.
• Proven CNC programming and machining experience.
• Experience with CAM software and CNC solid modeling.

Responsibilities

• Perform complex machining on 3,4,5 axis CNC machines.
• Write/edit CNC programs to meet production needs and cost targets.
• Mentor and train team members across shifts.
• Read technical drawings and verify conformance with measurements.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform complex machining operations on CNC milling machines and read and understand G-code
• Mentor fellow employees to resolve complex machining problems
• Write and edit complex CNC programs to support production requirements providing optimum manufacturing cost and quality.
• Set and operate 3, 4, and 5 axis machines
• Read and understand Technical drawings
• Produce quality parts in a timely mannerVerify conformance of finished workpieces to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
• Collaborate with machinists, Engineering, and Product/Production Management to solve problems and improve processes.
• Provide hands‑on leadership/training for all team members across shifts for all stages and processes within the CNC department.
• Establish and maintain a safe working environment, reporting any safety concerns and preventative measures.
• Support the “Production Board” by monitoring the daily performance/execution to the routed hours, including quality product to specification and on time.
• Support management to conduct employee performance reviews, provide frequent constructive feedback to your team or report any performance concerns up to management where appropriate
• Identify and implement necessary team training and development to enhance and/or maintain team skill levels
• Other duties as assigned

What you’ll bring

Required

• HNC/HND (Mechanical, Manufacturing Technology or Industrial Technology) or equivalent experience in a related field
• Proven machining experience on CNC equipment or using CNC solid modeling (turning and milling)
• Delcam or MasterCam Programming experience
• Extensive knowledge of machine functions (G code, M code, Offsets, etc)
• Strong leadership and communication skills

Preferred

• Lean Manufacturing
• Previous experience in leadership position
• Previous manufacturing experience in the vacuum industry
