Job summary

Response Personnel Ltd is seeking a CNC Sliding Head Engineer for its West Byfleet, Surrey operation. The role demands hands-on programming, setting and operating multi-axis Sliding Head machines, with emphasis on precision and efficiency.

The successful candidate will adapt to different machines, work well in a team, and contribute to continuous improvement. Star machine experience is a plus but not required; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Machining parts to tight tolerances with precision and accuracy.
• Working effectively as part of a team to achieve production goals.
• Assisting the production staff in other tasks to maintain efficiency.
• Managing workflow/schedule of jobs.

CNC SLIDING HEAD ENGINEER - WEST BYFLEET, SURREY

Job Title: CNC Sliding Head Engineer

Location: West Byfleet, Surrey

Reports To: Production Manager

Role Overview

Our client, a leading precision engineering company, is currently seeking a CNC Sliding Head Engineer to join their dynamic team. The candidate should possess prior experience in programming, setting and operating multi-axis Sliding Head machines.

While it would be beneficial to have experience using Star machines, it is not a mandatory requirement. Our client is looking for someone who is enthusiastic and willing to contribute to the team's growth.

The role will include:

• Programming, setting and running Star Sliding Head lathes
• Adjusting existing CNC programs to ensure accuracy and optimise efficiency
• Programming of new jobs on and offline
• Maintaining a level of self‑inspection throughout a batch
• Machining parts to tight tolerances with precision and accuracy
• Working effectively as part of a team to achieve production goals and maintain a smooth workflow
• Assisting the production staff in any other tasks that may be required to maintain production efficiency
• Managing workflow/schedule of jobs

It is also essential that the applicant is happy to work on different machines depending on where they are required.

• Hands‑on experience operating CNC Sliding Head machines, preferably Star machines
• Understanding of machining principles, CNC machining techniques, and tool selection
• Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills to identify and resolve machining issues
• Keen attention to detail and accuracy to produce high‑quality components meeting tight tolerances
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve common goals
• Enthusiasm and willingness to learn, take initiative and grow
• Openness to new challenges and willingness to take on additional responsibilities

What our client offers:

• Competitive rate of pay, depending on experience
• Opportunities for overtime - the standard working week is 39 hours; overtime rate is 1.5x
• Normal working hours are divided into two slots (staff can choose either)
• 08:00 - 17:00 Monday to Thursday & 08:00 - 13:00 Friday
• 07:30 - 16:30 Monday to Thursday & 07:30 - 12:30 Friday
• 22 days holiday to start, with an extra day each year to a maximum of 25 days, plus Bank Holidays

• Attendance bonus - 10 hours at basic rate if no unauthorised absence is taken in every 3 months
