Job summary

Acorn Recruitment in Portsmouth is seeking an experienced CNC Lathe Setter Operator to join a precision engineering team. You will set, prove out and operate CNC/NC lathes, manufacture components to tight tolerances, and read engineering drawings.

The role offers rotating shifts (37.5 hours per week), a shift allowance where applicable, and a benefits package. You will work with Fanuc controls, perform self-inspection, and contribute to continuous improvement across the workshop.

Qualifications

• Experience setting and operating CNC/NC lathes.
• Ability to prove out new CNC programmes.
• Strong knowledge of Fanuc or similar controls.
• Experience reading engineering drawings.
• Experience machining stainless steel components.
• Time-served apprenticeship or engineering qualification.

Responsibilities

• Set and operate CNC/NC lathe machinery.
• Prove out new and existing CNC programmes.
• Programme and set machines using Fanuc or similar controls.
• Manufacture precision components to engineering specifications.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Carry out self-inspection using measuring equipment.
• Record production activities in internal scheduling systems.
• Report production issues to Team Leaders.
• Maintain housekeeping per 5S principles.
• Support continual improvements in the machine shop.

CNC Lathe Setter Operator to join a leading global manufacturer within the

Life Sciences sector based in Portsmouth.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established engineering team where you will play a key role in setting, proving out and operating CNC/NC lathe machinery, producing precision components to exact specifications.

Working Hours

• 37.5 hours per week.
• Week 1: 6am-2pm.
• Week 2: 2pm-10pm.

Key Duties

• Set and operate CNC/NC lathe machinery.

• Ability to prove out new CNC programmes.
• Strong knowledge of Fanuc or similar controls.
• Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
• Competence in self-inspection and quality checking using measuring equipment.
• Experience machining stainless steel components.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• Flexible and proactive approach to work.
• Time-served apprenticeship or recognised engineering qualification.
• Experience working within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
