Envisage Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced PowerMill Offline CNC Programmer to support a precision manufacturing operation near Birmingham. The role focuses on 5-axis machining, creating and optimising CNC programs from CAD/CAM data to deliver first-pass proofed components.

You will collaborate with toolmakers and operators, simulate programs, optimise cycle times and tool life, and ensure compliance with quality and health & safety standards.

Qualifications

• Offline CNC programming experience with Autodesk PowerMill.
• Strong knowledge of multi-axis machining, especially 5-axis.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and CAD models.
• Familiarity with cutting tools, workholding, machining parameters and toolpath optimisation.
• Understanding of CNC machine kinematics and post-processors; collision avoidance.
• Experience with Heidenhain and/or Fanuc controls.

Responsabilités

• Create, develop and optimise CNC programs using Autodesk PowerMill offline programming software.
• Produce efficient toolpaths for complex 3-axis and 5-axis machining operations.
• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models and technical specifications.
• Select appropriate cutting tools, machining strategies and cutting parameters.
• Simulate and verify programs to identify potential collisions and inefficiencies before production.
• Collaborate with machine setters and operators to ensure programs suit the machine and application.
• Support prove-outs, troubleshooting and continuous improvements of machining processes.
• Maintain accurate program documentation and machining data.
• Identify opportunities to improve cycle times, surface finish, tool life and material utilisation.
• Follow company quality, health and safety procedures.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Proven experience in offline CNC programming using Autodesk PowerMill.
• Strong understanding of multi-axis CNC machining, particularly 5-axis operations.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
• Good knowledge of cutting tools, workholding, machining parameters and toolpath optimisation.
• Understanding of CNC machine kinematics, post-processors and collision avoidance.
• Familiarity with Heidenhain and/or Fanuc-controlled machinery.
• A methodical approach to problem-solving and a strong commitment to quality.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with production colleagues.

Desirable Experience

• Experience machining tooling boards, composites, plastics or other specialist materials.
• Experience with large-format CNC machining.
• Knowledge of CAD/CAM data management and revision control.
• Experience supporting machine prove-outs and resolving complex machining issues.
