Job summary

Interaction Engineering in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced 5-axis CNC Offline Programmer for a short-term contract (2 months, potentially ongoing). You will develop and prove out 5-axis programs using Autodesk PowerMill and PowerShape, supporting complex machining while optimising processes.

The role requires hands-on CAD/CAM expertise, experience with OMV programming and probing cycles, and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment under FANUC/HEIDENHAIN controls.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in 5-axis CNC offline programming.
• Experience with Autodesk PowerMill and PowerShape.
• Knowledge of OMV programming, probing cycles and first-off inspection.
• Experience with FANUC and/or HEIDENHAIN controls.
• Strong tooling, fixturing and machining optimisation knowledge.
• Ability to troubleshoot independently and document clearly.

Senior 5-Axis CNC Offline Programmer - Contract

Rate: Up to £35 per hour

The Opportunity

Aerotron Composites is seeking an experienced 5-Axis CNC Offline Programmer for a short-term contract assignment within a specialist manufacturing environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highly capable CAD/CAM professional with extensive hands-on experience using Autodesk PowerMill and PowerShape, supporting complex 5‑axis machining operations and optimising manufacturing processes.

We need someone who can hit the ground running, work autonomously and make an immediate contribution to programming capability, machining efficiency and production output.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, optimise and prove out 5-axis CNC offline programs using Autodesk PowerMill and PowerShape.
• Create OMV programs and probing cycles to support machining accuracy and inspection requirements.
• Support first‑off machining, program prove‑outs and production release.
• Work with FANUC and HEIDENHAIN CNC controls.
• Troubleshoot programming and machining issues, implementing effective corrective actions.
• Optimise toolpaths, tooling strategies and machining parameters to improve cycle times, accuracy and efficiency.
• Develop robust programming strategies and produce clear, accurate operator instructions.
• Support fixture validation, fixture design improvements and tooling development.
• Manipulate CAD data to support the manufacture of tooling, fixtures and patterns.
• Develop inspection instructions, standard operating procedures and departmental documentation.
• Maintain programming quality standards and support continuous improvement across the 5‑axis department.
• Manage programming priorities in line with production schedules.
• Support ERP documentation and entries relating to tooling manufactured in‑house.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Proven experience in 5‑axis CNC offline programming.
• Strong working knowledge of Autodesk PowerMill and PowerShape.
• Experience creating and proving out complex CNC programs.
• Knowledge of OMV programming, probing cycles and first‑off inspection.
• Experience working with FANUC and/or HEIDENHAIN CNC controls.
• Strong understanding of tooling, fixturing, CAD data and machining optimisation.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues independently and deliver practical solutions.
• Strong documentation skills and a structured approach to quality and process control.

The Ideal Contractor

You’ll be a hands‑on, technically strong programmer who can quickly integrate into an established manufacturing operation, take ownership of programming activities and deliver improvements with minimal supervision.

Previous experience in a complex, high‑precision manufacturing environment will be highly advantageous.
