Job summary
WR Engineering in Portsmouth (Farlington) is recruiting an experienced CNC EDM Machinist to join its busy engineering and manufacturing team. The role is hands-on and suits someone with Wire EDM and Die Sink/Spark EDM experience.
You will read detailed drawings, program at the machine, and produce precision components and tooling. Overtime is available at time and a half, with a salary up to £40,000 depending on experience.

My client is recruiting for an experienced CNC EDM Machinist to join their busy engineering and manufacturing business.
This is a varied, hands-on machining role that would suit an experienced CNC Machinist, Toolmaker or EDM Machinist with a strong background in precision engineering.
The key requirement is hands on experience with both Wire EDM and Die Sink/Spark EDM, alongside a broader CNC machining background.
- Setting, programming and operating Wire EDM and Die Sink/Spark EDM machines
- Setting and operating CNC/semi-CNC machinery
- Producing one-off and precision components and tooling
- Programming directly at the machine
- Working from detailed engineering drawings
- Carrying out your own inspection and quality checks
- Reverse engineering components and tooling where required
- Using mathematics, geometry and trigonometry to calculate dimensions and machining requirements
- Monitoring machine condition and carrying out basic maintenance and troubleshooting
- Managing your own workload and taking jobs through from setup to completion
- Previous hands-on experience with Wire EDM
- Previous hands-on experience with Die Sink/Spark EDM
- CNC machining experience
- Ability to set, programme and operate machinery
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Ability to carry out own inspection and quality checksGood mathematical and geometric understanding
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workloadDesirable:
- Toolmaking and hand-fitting experience
- Surface or cylindrical grinding experience
- CNC/semi-CNC turning experience
- Experience with XYZ Proturn or similar machinery
- Reverse engineering experience
- Experience working with precision tooling or one-off components
