Job summary
James Kirby associates Ltd. in Coventry is seeking an experienced EDM Machinist to join a well-established precision engineering business. You will set up and operate EDM and Wire EDM machinery, reading engineering drawings to produce precision components.
The role involves clocking components, using shop-floor measurement tools, and adapting programs based on prior experience. DOE salary and benefits apply; permanent position with overtime available.
Qualifications
- Hands-on EDM experience is preferred.
- Experience with Wire EDM, Spark EDM, Sinkers or Fast-hole EDM is expected.
- Background in CNC, machining or toolmaking is advantageous.
- Programming and CAD experience would be beneficial but not essential.

Salary: £17.00-£18.50 per hour (DOE) Hours: Monday–Thursday 7am–4:00pm | Friday 7am–12pm Benefits: 34 days holiday + pension and overtime
An excellent opportunity is available for an experienced engineer with a background in EDM, Wire EDM, spark erosion or wire erosion to join a well-established precision engineering business.
We are keen to speak with engineers who have gained hands-on EDM experience, whether this has been their main specialism or part of a broader machining, toolmaking or precision engineering role.
- Setting and operating EDM / Wire EDM machinery
- Working accurately from engineering drawings
- Setting and clocking components
- Producing precision components to tight tolerances
- Using standard shop-floor measuring and inspection equipment
- Programming machinery depending on previous experience
- Working on a variety of components and engineering projects
- Wire EDM / wire erosion

You do not need experience on every machine, and candidates whose EDM experience forms part of a wider CNC, machining or toolmaking background are encouraged to apply.
Programming and CAD experience would be advantageous but are not essential, and additional training can be provided.
