Staffline is recruiting for a leading precision R&D engineering company in Cheltenham for an EDM Machinist - Programmer Setter Operator to join our production team.

You will program, set and operate Wire EDM and Spark Erosion machines from engineering drawings and CAD data to produce aerospace components to tight tolerances.

The role is dayshift, permanent, with a competitive salary up to £45,000 per annum and overtime opportunities.

We are a recruiting for a leading precision R&D engineering company serving the aerospace and defence sectors, manufacturing complex, high-precision components for some of the world's most demanding applications. Due to continued growth and investment in advanced manufacturing technologies, we are seeking an experienced EDM Machinist - Programmer, Setter and Operator to join our skilled production team.

The Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for programming, setting, and operating both Wire EDM and Spark Erosion (Sink EDM) machines to produce precision aerospace components to tight tolerances and exacting quality standards.

Working from engineering drawings and CAD data, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality parts while continuously driving efficiency and maintaining the highest standards of workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

• Program, set and operate Wire EDM and Spark Erosion machines.
• Manufacture precision components to aerospace quality requirements.
• Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications.
• Select and prepare electrodes, tooling, fixtures and materials.
• Perform machine setup, process optimisation and first-off inspection.
• Monitor machining operations and adjust ensure quality and productivity.
• Conduct routine machine maintenance and housekeeping activities.
• Use precision measuring equipment to verify component conformity.
• Maintain accurate production and quality records.
• Work closely with Engineering, Quality and Production teams to meet delivery schedules.
• Adhere to all health, safety and aerospace quality procedures.

Requirements

Essential

• Proven experience as an EDM Machinist, Programmer, Setter and Operator.
• Strong experience using both:
• Wire EDM machines
• Spark Erosion / Sink EDM machines
• Ability to program EDM machines from engineering drawings and CAD data.
• Skilled in reading and interpreting complex technical drawings.
• Experience working to tight tolerances within a precision engineering environment.
• Competent in the use of inspection and measurement equipment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable

• Aerospace or defence manufacturing experience.
• Experience with GF, Fanuc, Sodick, Mitsubishi, AgieCharmilles, Makino or similar EDM equipment.
• Knowledge of aerospace materials including titanium, Inconel, stainless steels and exotic alloys.
• Understanding of AS9100 quality systems.
• CAD/CAM programming experience.
• Apprenticeship or engineering qualification.
