Job summary

Smiths News in the United Kingdom is seeking a Modern Workplace Engineer to join our team and report to the Service Delivery Manager. The role focuses on cloud technologies and end-user compute, including Microsoft 365, Azure, and Intune, with opportunities to contribute to migrations and new technology rollouts.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Intune and Azure, solid networking knowledge, ITIL foundations, and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

• Understanding of networking concepts and protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S)
• Knowledge and experience using modern device management (Intune) and cloud services (Azure)
• Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Modern Desktop Administrator, Azure Fundamentals, Windows 10/11, ITIL Foundation or equivalent
• Effective written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities

• Technical Escalation: primary contact for high-level technical issues and escalations related to Microsoft 365, Azure services, Intune compliance, and other modern workplace technologies
• Project Involvement: participate in IT projects related to modern workplace enhancements, migrations, and new technology rollouts
• Continuous Improvement: stay up to date with Microsoft technologies and best practices; improve processes and team capabilities
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of cloud infrastructure, including diagrams and procedures
• Monitor system compliance and ensure optimal operation of end user compute
• Collaborate with senior engineers to troubleshoot and resolve Azure/365 incidents and projects
• Be a member of the onshore presence for office-based users
