Job summary

SSE is seeking a skilled Cloud Engineer to join the central Cloud Engineering team in Reading/Havant. You will focus on backup/data protection, with Rubrik, across IaaS/PaaS and on-premises infrastructure, contributing to SSE's cloud migration program and overall platform resilience.

You will work with strategists, architects and product owners to design pragmatic solutions, drive automation and ensure secure, auditable deployments in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• Experience with backup solutions, cloud-focused, preferably Rubrik.
• Understanding of AWS or Azure and Cloud Native Architectures.
• Strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of operational support procedures and managing 3rd party software lifecycles.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle and experience with at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
• Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform) or Configuration Management (Ansible/Puppet) and exposure to CI/CD tools (GitHub, GitLab, Azure DevOps).

Responsibilities

• Take an SME role for our backup platform, collaborate with and provide guidance to our IT Operations partner who run the Rubrik service day to day.
• Partner with Product owners and management to manage and clearly articulate demand planning and delivery against the projected backlog and book of work.
• Contribute to the design and development of automation, self-service and deployment frameworks in line with industry standard cloud patterns and practices.
• Identify and progress opportunities to drive continuous improvement across engineering, delivery, and operational practices.
• Ensure all architecture and infrastructure accommodates the latest security and software lifecycle patterns.
