Clinical Pharmacist (Acute and Specialist Services) (Ref: 214477)
Position: Substantive, Full-Time – 37 hours per week
Salary: Band 6 - £39,912 to £48,635; Band 7 - £48,788 to £56,747 (dependent on experience)
Additional Benefits: Distant Island Allowance of £2,380 per annum; Relocation Assistance of up to £8,000
An exciting opportunity for a motivated, clinically focused pharmacist to practice rural general pharmacy at Gilbert Bain Hospital, Lerwick. You will provide patient-centered care across various clinical specialties and contribute to developing pharmacy services across the Shetland Islands.
For Band 6 entry, supervision, training, and support will be provided, including post-registration foundation training with an educational supervisor. Experienced pharmacists can access further education and career development opportunities, including support to achieve the RPS Core Advanced Pharmacist Curriculum. Peer support is available via the Highlands and Islands Pharmacy Education and Research (HIPER) Centre in Inverness, which facilitates regional discussion and peer review. Protected time for learning is included in the role.
Gilbert Bain Hospital provides acute care for island residents, visitors, and offshore emergencies, covering all disciplines. It offers outpatient care through local and visiting specialists, including pharmacist-led clinics. You will join a team of pharmacists, technicians, and support staff working across acute and primary care to deliver seamless, effective patient care. NHS Shetland is known for its supportive environment and welcoming culture.
The Shetland Islands, home to 23,000 residents, boast stunning wildlife, natural beauty, and a vibrant community. Shetland combines rich cultural heritage with modern industries and a thriving economy. The main town, Lerwick, has around 7,500 residents and is a hub for fishing and cruise tourism.
