Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals seeks a Clinical Educator to advance evidence-based nursing in the Musculoskeletal Care Group. The post holder will provide educational support, mentor staff, and act as a resource to the multidisciplinary team, aiming to sustain high standards of care through clinical governance.

The role requires NMC registration, an educational qualification or equivalent, and experience in MSK/Orthopaedic education.

Qualifications

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse with valid NMC.
  • Accredited educational qualification or equivalent.
  • Academic achievement or working towards Degree level of study.
  • To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998.
  • Professional Nurse Advocate qualification, Relevant experience in MSK/Orthopaedic setting.
  • Experience of delivering clinical education and training programmes.
  • Experience of facilitating induction, preceptorship and ongoing development of staff.
  • Completed NMC recognised mentor qualification or plan to complete.
  • Experience of mandatory training and staff wellbeing initiatives.
  • Good communication and leadership skills.
  • High-level commitment to professional development and IT/databases knowledge.
  • Ability to work flexibly and manage workload.

Responsibilities

  • Provide educational support to the Musculoskeletal Care Group.
  • Act as a resource for senior and junior staff and MDT members.
  • Develop and maintain clinical practice to enhance competence.
  • Lead induction, preceptorship and ongoing professional development.
  • Mentor staff and support clinical governance.
  • Assist in education and training activities within MSK wards.
  • Support management in achieving high standards of care.

Job description

We have a vacancy for a Clinical Educator within the Musculoskeletal Care Group at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. The post holder will be involved in the continued development of evidence-based care nursing practice within the Musculoskeletal Care Group. They will use their expertise to provide educational support and act as a resource for senior and junior staff and members of the multidisciplinary team, demonstrating a commitment to nursing care philosophy through a framework of clinical governance., To develop and maintain clinical practice and skills to enhance / ensure the clinical competence of individuals and teams in order to provide specialist care within the Musculoskeletal wards/departments. Assist in the education and training within the Musculoskeletal Care Group and act as a resource to facilitate the development of professional skills. Provide support to a team of qualified / support staff and students in liaison with the management team. To support the clinical workload within the Musculoskeletal wards when required. Work with the management team to ensure highest standard and quality of nursing care are effectively delivered to a diverse range of patients and relatives within the Musculoskeletal Care Group. To act as a role model and teacher, providing mentorship and support, demonstrating exemplary practice to all members of the Multi-disciplinary Team., Please view the attached job description and person specification documents for full details regarding this post.

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse with valid NMC
  • Accredited educational qualification or equivalent.
  • Academic achievement or working towards Degree level of study.
  • To have completed the national practice assessor training or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998., 1st Level Degree or equivalent or working towards one
  • Professional Nurse Advocate qualification, Relevant experience working at AFC Band 5 / 6 in an MSK/Orthopaedic clinical setting
  • Ability to lead, motivate and develop a professional team
  • Experience of delivering clinical education and training programmes
  • Experience of facilitating induction, preceptorship and ongoing development of registered and unregistered staff
  • Completed NMC recognised mentor qualification, or plan to complete, Ward/unit level managerial experience - coordinator role
  • Experience of delivering Trust mandatory training sessions and maintaining compliance standards
  • Experience of supporting staff wellbeing initiatives, restorative clinical supervision, Evidence of relevant post basic training and continuous professional development
  • Ability to communicate effectively including active listening, writing, and verbally, with individuals on a one to one basis, with groups, and the multidisciplinary team
  • Good understanding of the national strategic context of the NHS
  • Excellent performance management skills
  • Highly developed leadership skills with excellent interpersonal skills and ability to form positive relationships at all levels.

4. FTC due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for the maximum period of 12 months. Where there is potential, the secondment/fixed term contract may finish early, or in the first instance, the secondment/fixed term contract may be extended due to the internal/external secondment of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder. Please note all existing NHS staff will only be considered on a secondment basis. This must first be agreed with your current line manager.
