Job summary

NFU is seeking a Climate Policy Adviser to lead climate adaptation and mitigation policy, working directly with farmers to translate evidence into practical policy proposals. You will collaborate across sectors to develop solutions, influence government, and ensure farming needs are heard by decision-makers.

This role focuses on shaping policy in England and Wales, balancing evidence with pragmatic outcomes, and requires strong communication and relationship-building across civil servants,

Qualifications

• Sound understanding of climate change and its implications for agriculture.
• Appropriate qualification or relevant professional experience.

Responsibilities

• Be part of leading the development and delivery of the NFU’s policies on climate adaptation and mitigation.
• Work with the NFU’s sector boards to identify climate risks, opportunities and policy needs of different farming sectors.
• Turn member experience, technical evidence and policy analysis into clear, compelling asks of government.
• Influence government departments, national agencies and other decision-makers through meetings, consultations and industry initiatives.
• Lead NFU engagement with members on climate policy, grounded in farming realities.
• Monitor emerging policy and legislative developments and explain implications clearly to NFU members and colleagues.
• Build alliances across agriculture, the supply chain and relevant organisations to advance NFU objectives.
• Shape a policy environment for farming businesses to stay productive, profitable and resilient while reducing emissions.
