Job summary

Devon County Council is seeking a Climate and Sustainability Officer to join our Climate and Sustainability Team. You will help reduce carbon emissions, drive system-wide change, and support climate adaptation across Devon.

The postholder will collaborate with partners across local government, businesses and communities to deliver practical solutions. You will provide technical advice, shape strategies and guidance, and contribute to the Devon Climate Emergency and other partnerships while

Job description

Devon County Council is looking for a Climate and Sustainability Officer to join our ambitious Climate and Sustainability Team. You'll play a key role in supporting the council's environmental performance and helping to deliver real change across Devon., This is a varied and rewarding role at the heart of Devon's climate action work, offering the opportunity to collaborate with partners across local government, businesses, communities and regional organisations. The postholder will lead and support projects that reduce carbon emissions and drive system-wide change across the region, helping to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future. Working as part of a dynamic team, you will also support the development and delivery of climate adaptation initiatives, helping communities, infrastructure and services become more resilient to the impacts of climate change. You'll have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of climate and sustainability projects. The team is involved in climate resilience, energy planning, renewable energy deployment, building retrofit, carbon offsetting, low carbon travel solutions, local food, and community and schools engagement. The role sits within the Environmental Sustainability Group, which brings together expertise in climate, ecology, heritage, landscape, flood and coastal risk. This is a collaborative role, working across the council and with external partners. You'll provide technical advice, shape strategies and guidance, and support partnerships such as the Devon Climate Emergency, Devon Local Nature Partnership, and National Landscapes. You’ll need to be comfortable working across disciplines, managing your own workload, and helping to shape innovative solutions to environmental challenges.
