Carter Jonas LLP is seeking an experienced Client Accountant in our Birmingham office to manage a portfolio of client accounts, handle financial transactions, and generate timely reports. The role requires strong reconciliation skills, the ability to process payments to subcontractors under CIS rules, and excellent client communication.
You will work with a team of professionals across departments and participate in ad hoc projects as needed.
We are looking for an experienced Client Accountant to manage financial transactions and reporting for a client portfolio within our Birmingham office. The role will involve managing a portfolio of clients, undertaking ad hoc projects, and supporting colleagues as required. We welcome applications from candidates who are part-qualified, currently studying towards a professional qualification, or nearing qualification. You will have proven experience in applying Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) deductions, processing subcontractor payments, and maintaining CIS compliance across multiple client accounts.
The post holder will be part of team of 8 professionals within the Birmingham office with a range of specialisms and extensive experience, working closely with our wider team based in Shrewsbury. You will join our hub office in Birmingham where you will work alongside over 100 professionals across our main divisions which means there are lots of exciting events going on with various office socials, health & wellbeing and fundraising activities to get involved in.

Ideally, you will have gained experience within a busy finance environment, either in industry or within a reputable accountancy practice. You will be confident working both independently and as part of a team, with the ability to make sound decisions efficiently and effectively.
You will have experience managing client portfolios, including building and maintaining strong client relationships, and will be comfortable reporting directly to clients. A solid understanding of client money handling and associated regulations is essential, along with the ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of financial processes and controls. Experience of the Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) would be advantageous.
You will possess strong communication skills, a professional approach and excellent time management. High attention to detail and accuracy are essential, along with a proactive, enthusiastic attitude and strong numerical and analytical abilities. Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to collaborate closely with colleagues across departments are key, as you will play an important role within the wider contract management team. It is also essential that you are highly IT literate, with a thorough understanding of Microsoft Office programmes, particularly Excel.
