Job summary

NHS Ayrshire & Arran is offering a Modern Apprentice position in Business and Administration starting on 18 August 2026. The apprenticeship is targeted at individuals aged 16 to 24 and includes on-the-job training and support, leading to a nationally recognized SCQF Level 5 qualification.

Applicants will engage in various clerical duties and will receive guidance from a dedicated coach while networking with other apprentices. This is an excellent opportunity for motivated individuals interested in developing a career in administration.

Qualifications

  • No prior experience necessary; this apprenticeship welcomes school leavers.
  • Must be aged between 16 and 24 years on 1 August 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general reception duties.
  • Sort and distribute incoming and outgoing mail.
  • Conduct general admin tasks such as photocopying and filing.
  • Handle enquiries face-to-face or by telephone.
  • Maintain appointment systems.
  • Prepare orders for supplies to ensure adequate stock levels.

About the Role

Modern Apprentice in Business and Administration – NHS Lanarkshire

Key Details
  • Locations: Various sites across NHS Lanarkshire
  • Wage: Band 2 (£26,696 – £28,988)
  • Duration: Fixed‑term 12 months starting 18 August 2026, 36 hours per week (part‑time hours available with pro‑rated salary)
  • Eligibility: Applicants must be aged 16 to 24 years on 1 August 2026 (or up to 29 for those with a disability or care experience). Must demonstrate proficiency at SCQF Level 5/National 5.

Duties as a Clerical Officer May Include
  • General reception duties
  • Sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing mail
  • General admin tasks such as photocopying, emailing and filing
  • Handling enquiries face‑to‑face or by telephone from the public, patients and external agencies
  • Maintaining appointment systems – resolving disputed appointment times, offering new appointments and re‑arranging existing ones
  • Preparing orders for stationery, supplies and sundries to ensure adequate stock levels (e.g. purchase orders, pre‑printed stock orders)
No Prior Experience Necessary

This apprenticeship welcomes applicants with limited work experience, including school leavers.
