Job summary

Qube Recruitment seeks an Environmental Services Team Leader for a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover based in Grays, Essex. The role oversees shift cleaning teams across a shopping centre, ensuring consistently high standards of cleanliness across mall areas, restrooms, car parks and external areas.

You will support the operational management team, motivate staff and ensure services are delivered safely, efficiently and to an exceptional standard.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise and motivate shift cleaning teams to maintain high standards.
• Support the Head of Department and cover management duties as required.
• Ensure cleaning standards are maintained across the centre daily.
• Plan and manage rotas, briefings, and day-to-day operations.
• Provide guidance and training opportunities for team members.
• Assist with recruitment and onboarding of new staff.
• Conduct regular team briefings to communicate expectations and updates.
• Monitor performance and ensure work meets quality and safety standards.
• Respond to queries and resolve issues effectively.
• Manage stock and materials, maintaining inventory records.
• Ensure work complies with health and safety and regulatory standards.
• Deliver excellent customer service and handle enquiries professionally.
• Coordinate with management to run environmental services smoothly across the centre.

Environmental Services Team Leader - 12 month Fixed Term Contract Maternity Cover

Location: Grays, Essex.

Salary: £32,240 per annum

Hours: 36.5 hours per week

Working Pattern: 5 days on, 2 days off | Wednesday-Sunday

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Environmental Services Team Leader to join the team and take responsibility for leading and managing shift cleaning teams across the shopping centre.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll play an important part in ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness are maintained across the centre, including mall areas, customer restrooms, waste facilities, car parks and external areas.

You’ll be responsible for supporting the operational management team, motivating your colleagues and ensuring all environmental services are delivered safely, efficiently and to an exceptional standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and motivate shift cleaning teams to deliver consistently high standards.
• Support the Head of Department and take on management responsibilities when required.
• Ensure exceptional cleaning standards are maintained across the centre on a daily basis.
• Organise and support shift rotas, team briefings and day-to-day operational activities.
• Provide encouragement and guidance to team members, identifying training and development opportunities.
• Assist with recruitment and the onboarding and training of new team members.
• Conduct regular team briefings to communicate expectations, best practices and operational updates.
• Monitor team performance and ensure work is completed to the required quality and compliance standards.
• Respond to team member queries and assist with resolving issues effectively.
• Manage stock and materials, maintaining accurate inventory records and supporting ordering where required.
• Ensure all work is carried out in line with health and safety requirements and relevant compliance standards.
• Provide excellent customer service, including dealing professionally with customer enquiries and complaints.
• Work closely with operational management to ensure the smooth running of environmental services across the centre.
