Job summary

Sodexo Group is seeking a Cleaning Operative at Ysgol John Bright to maintain a safe, hygienic and welcoming school environment. You will perform routine cleaning across classrooms and facilities, following COSHH rules and using approved products. The role is 3pm–6.15pm, with weekly hours and a pay rate of £12.71 per hour.

This part-time position values reliability, flexibility and strong customer service for staff and pupils. On-site work with a supportive team and access to Sodexo benefits.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a similar cleaning role with COSHH knowledge.
• Knowledge of cleaning products and equipment as described in the job posting.
• Ability to follow health and safety procedures and policies.

Responsibilities

• Carry out routine cleaning tasks at the scheduled time, following policies and COSHH requirements.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness across classrooms, offices and shared spaces.
• Empty bins, restock consumables and dispose of waste safely.
• Use approved cleaning products and equipment safely and effectively.
• Undertake cleaning duties with PPE and hazard signage as required.
• Clean floors, furnishings, windows and mirrors to the required standard.
• Respond to ad-hoc cleaning requests on site as needed.
• Be courteous and provide excellent customer care for staff, pupils and visitors.
• Work with other cleaners to maintain consistent standards across the school.
• Take steps to minimise damage and maintain a safe working environment.

Rate of Pay: £12.71 per hour**

Hours: 16.25 hours per week or 30 hours per week

Working Pattern: Friday to Thursday (over 5 days) 3pm till 6.15pm

**Equated pay (sometimes known as spread-over pay) is a method of paying you for your contracted hours, working weeks and holiday pay spread over 12 months instead of just receiving pay during the months that you work and none during the school closures/non-working weeks. This means that you get paid equal amounts of pay every month. Further information will be supplied at interview stage.**

What You’ll Do:

• Carry out routine cleaning tasks at the scheduled time, following all relevant policies, procedures and COSHH requirements.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness across communal areas, classrooms, offices, toilets, changing rooms and specialist spaces.
• Empty bins, collect and move refuse, and restock consumables such as soap, paper towels and toilet tissue.
• Use only approved cleaning products, equipment and materials safely and efficiently, in line with training provided.
• Undertake cleaning duties safely, using PPE and hazard signage where appropriate.
• Clean floors, furnishings, equipment, windows and mirrors to the required standard.
• Respond to ad‑hoc cleaning requests on site when required.
• Be courteous, helpful and efficient, ensuring excellent customer care for staff, pupils and visitors.
• Work collaboratively with other cleaning staff to maintain consistent standards across the school.
• Take reasonable steps to minimise loss or damage to property and maintain a safe working environment.

What You Bring:

• Previous experience in a similar cleaning role, with knowledge of cleaning products, equipment, COSHH and safe working practices.
• Strong communication and customer service skills, with a polite and professional manner.
• The ability to work efficiently, manage your time and adapt to changing priorities or requests throughout the day.
• A team‑focused attitude, collaborating with colleagues to maintain high standards across the school.
