St James’ Catholic Primary School, St James' Road, Orrell, Wigan, WN5 7AA, invites applications for a Cleaner. The post is 15 hours per week with a salary of £10,384 per annum (£13.27 per hour) and is advertised as full time and temporary until 31 August 2027, with start date in October 2026.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team to uphold high standards of cleanliness, using cleaning equipment after training.

The Governors wish to appoint a conscientious, hard working and committed Cleaner to work as part of a team. The successful applicant will be responsible for developing and maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness around the school and will be expected to use a number of pieces of equipment to do this. Knowledge of Health and Safety procedures is desirable and qualifications to use cleaning machines would be an advantage. Full training will be provided for the successful applicant who must be supportive of the School’s ethos at all times.

The main duties of the post are as follows

• Under the direction of senior staff to undertake cleaning duties within allocated areas in line with
• Specified standards
• Ensure that high standards of cleanliness are achieved and maintained at all times
• Ensure work is completed in specified timescales
• Undertake emergency cleaning as and when required
• To operate/use domestic and/or industrial cleaning equipment and materials (following relevant training)
• To undertake basic record keeping as directed
• To refill and replace consumables and to collect and dispose of waste
• To perform duties in line with health and safety regulations (COSHH)
• To handle cleaning materials in line with COSHH regulations
• To report serious hazards to the line manager immediately
• To report faulty equipment and other maintenance requirements to the appropriate person
• To undertake specialist cleaning programmes during school closures
• Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade and job title as directed by the Headteacher
• To be aware of and comply with policies and procedures
