Job summary

Farrans in Glasgow, UK, is seeking a Civil Estimator to join the Pre-Contract team. You will prepare independent estimates for major civil projects (roads, bridges, water, renewables) and interact with clients, project teams and supply chain partners.

The role covers pricing, tender documentation, and tender adjudication for projects typically ranging from £10m to over £50m. A strong background in civil estimating and proficiency with Conquest/Candy are preferred.

Qualifications

• Honours degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• HND/HNC in similar discipline with proven estimating track record in Civil Engineering.
• 5+ years' experience in civil engineering estimation.
• Knowledge of UK/ROI construction markets.
• Proficiency with Estimating Software (Conquest/Candy).
• Strong numerical, data analysis and cost management skills.
• Advanced MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook).
• Full driving license.
• Strong communication skills to engage with clients at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with bid management to develop a schedule of key dates for estimates.
• Examine tender docs for completeness and review conditions of contract.
• Prepare and issue enquiry documents to providers of materials and sub-contractors.
• Attend pre-construction and site visits.
• Extract Bill of Quantities from tender package to estimating software.
• Develop BOQ from drawings or tenders when documentation is unavailable.
• Source and price all items detailed in the BOQ.
• Evaluate quotations and liaise with suppliers to align with project specs.
• Price temporary works and liaise with design teams to ensure completeness.
• Organise and price contractors' preliminaries for projects.
• Lead Tender Adjudication with reports and presentations.
• Complete tender documents for submission with Line Manager.
• Organise delivery of tender documents by client deadlines.
